Experience
I am an established educator with eight years teaching experience. I taught geography, geology, and statistics to undergraduate students for three years as a teaching assistant. For the past five years, I taught ecology, geology, geography, botany, and navigational math to middle and high school students as an experiential educator. I was named Teaching Assistant of the Year by UNC Greensboro's geography department in 2008. I can use a variety of teaching styles to help students get "unstuck" in difficult subjects. I think that it's important that education relates to tangible, real-life experience. Everyone has a unique set of knowledge, skills, and experiences. My job as a tutor is to help students tap into that experience when facing challenging subjects. In addition to teaching, I help to manage a non-profit experiential education center in rural Appalachia. I also lead volunteer trips to Haiti with a community development organization.
